Dia De Los Muertos

Gone by generations

Full of celebrations

Sea of creations

Colorful animations

Selfless invitations

To live, love, laugh

Honoring the melanin

Atomic creatinine

Seeping through the cracks

Once hindering packs

Leaving nothing but love, strength, and wisdom

From the ground up awake

Cultural awareness

Words That Lift

Photo by Los Muertos Crew on Pexels.com

In the most somber moments

In the abysmal torments

Prayers were the string

Cruelty emptiness brings

A tear was shed

A sight was fed

Beyond hopes and dreams

All the beautiful things

Because prayers, wishes, and hopes

Can only take you so far

Nothing is ever perfect

Nothing is ever easy

But if you manifest and do

Figure out what works for you

The effort worth the work

Because prayers are only the string

Your work abundance shall bring

When you get into a prosperous routine

Candle Light

The flicker of a candle

Insignificant handle

That takes a room from dark to light

When every corner seems obscure

Your flickering shadows adorn

Providing light and even warmth

How insignificant a candle must be

To light an entire room

Unnoticed beautiful flame

Scented soothing aromas

Filling my nostrils and senses

Manifestation of places and faces

Spiritual haven

Wings of the Raven or Crow

Ancestral flow

In your light my spirit grows

Cry If You Must My Child

Photo by Samuel Benjamin Hernandez Lopez on Pexels.com

Cry if you must, my child

Don’t you know the flowers bloom

The Trees grow

The waters flow

Through winter, spring, summer, fall

Flowers wither, trees fall, floods happen

storms arrive

let the tears expel your disease

let the hurt strip you of your embryonic innocence

let your sorrows teach you lessons

that new-found wisdom can turn into blessings

Cry if you must, my child

don’t cry for the same thing again

just like those flowers

the trees, and those waters

will begin to bloom anew and shine their beauty again

feeding, nourishing abundant life & light

so will the garden of your soul

and the essence of your spirit

Because nothing in this world is permanent

not your greatest happiness

and not even your greatest sorrow

The Strength of a Pause

Photo by Amy Faru00edas on Pexels.com

Pause when you are angry

Pause when you are sad

Pause when you are happy

Pause when you are informed

Pause if you don’t know

Pause if you are hostile

Pause if you are blessed

Pause if you are stressed

Pause instead of assume

Pause and don’t abuse

Pause when judging harshly

Pause when thoughts are binding

Pause always Pause

Sometimes, we just need to Pause

be thankful, appreciate, soak in, and bathe

in the glorious blessing

Pause and dissect the turbulent

less than

Pause and Simply Breath

In One Breath

In one breath, we take oxygen

In one breath, a baby is born

In one breath, we speak

In one breath, we relax

In one breath, ecstasy expressed

In one breath, the lungs expand

In one breath, molecules work

In one breath, life transforms

Insignificant hidden action

Life-altering transforming function

In One Breath

To Be Humane

City lights glow

The wind subtly blows

People walking the streets

In a hurry to work, they go

or perhaps to eat or feast

going home or simply walking

sitting on a sidewalk, panting

would you pass by a homeless

or give them something for free

because they are a sister or brother, after all

they once walked the same streets

and still will, long after we all go home

A Feast of The Mind

Photo by Chait Goli on Pexels.com

The food of the mind

The meal of the soul

The feast of the spirit

Necessary source

We choose what we feed

Our core every day

We may think and feel

Through scraps and leftovers

Through high-quality or overpriced meals

gourmet chaos or nourishing feasts

the plain lessons of everyday treats

Shall we practice fasting

overfed hungers

On the scale of numbers

what you feed your mind matters

In One Hour

Photo by Andrea Romu00e1n on Pexels.com

In one hour

a mother gives birth

someone takes their last breath

someone graduates

while someone’s failure permeates

One person sleeps

while another awakes

another human diagnosis

ill fitted prognosis

twisting the economies

plagues of humanities

sickness in the soul

health in another

healed and birthed

more than once in many forms

and we call this life

perhaps our long strayed wives

while another falls in love

and turns winters into spring

intoxicating summer breeze

the birds sing

the tides come and go

the waters of one side

can be the droughts of another

do not dispair, we all cycle

because life is forever changing

we are never really stagnant

life is forever turning tables

in all its whimsical forms

that discriminates not one

in the 60 minutes of the hour
